The New Jersey Devils were able to catch up a two goal
third period deficit to win the game 4:3 in overtime against their Atlantic
division rivals the Pittsburgh Penguins. Pens‘ Evgeni Malkin had two assists
(tying injured teammate Sidney Crosby at 63 points) and former Devil (in 2000
won the Stanley Cup) Peter Sykora’s 17th goal of the season made it 0:2 in the
second period as it was his 600th career point.

Without their teams‘ productivity leading forward Shawn
Horcoff (21 goals, 29 assists in 53 games), the Edmonton Oilers were able to
win clearly over their Northwest division rival the Calgary Flames 5:0. Horcoff
has to undergo a surgery which should repair his injured shoulder and will
miss the rest of the season. But also without him, the Oilers spoiled their
former goalie Curtis Josephs‘ debut in Flames jersey (signed as
a unrestricted free agent on Jan. 18.), who was looking for his 447th
victory in his career (which would tie the fourth placed Terry Sawchuk).
